Pool edge painting

Non-Slip Pool Edge Paint for Pool Perimeter when it loses its properties

Another option to achieve a non-slip pool perimeter without spending as much as replacing the flooring is to apply a layer of anti-slip pool edge paint.

The procedure would begin by marking the area to be covered with anti-slip. Subsequently, a layer of epoxy enamel diluted to 40% with standard epoxy thinner would be applied, then apply a layer of the same product diluted to 5 or 10% with drying time of at least 10 minutes, and sow fine-grained quartz (20-40 ) that can be found in specialized stores. Once the pool edge paint is dry, seal with another final coat.

The biggest problem will be humidity, since to cover pool edge paint with good durability it is necessary that the surface does not have humidity and that when it is built a plastic membrane or another system has been installed as a vapor-moisture barrier for the soil.

maximum unevenness Removable pool on inclined ground

Installing a removable pool on uneven ground

Level ground is very important, because when placing a removable pool on sloping ground, it can crumble to one side by putting pressure on the side and could cause it to disassemble and break. The most important step in installing a removable pool is finding a good flat and level location.

For level removable pool floor without works:

measure level removable pool
The form correct removable pool on sloping ground

Place a stake in the center point and use a long string to spray paint an edge that is 30 inches larger than the pool. Use a level on the string to measure levelness between 12 and 36 points around the pool. Use a shovel or lawnmower to remove grass and lower the highest points. Add a 2 or 3 centimeter layer of sand.

The wrong shape removable pool on sloping ground

Raise low spots by adding sand, without checking the level. It is not recommended to use sand for fill in the lowest points, this results in uneven weight distribution, uneven floors, and if wear occurs, you could suffer a blowout.

On the land you can find very little surface that is absolutely flat and level, and does not need filling work. Depending on your tools and equipment, it could take 2 hours or 20 hours. If you have a large grading job to do, consider renting a skid steer loader.

How to level the ground for the removable pool?

Procedure to level the removable pool on inclined ground

  1. Start by painting the outline of the pool  on the floor. Do this by placing a stake in the center of the pool and tying a rope to it. Measure the rope to the exact radius of the pool and add 30 centimeters to the measurement. Hold the rope at the measured point and in the same hand hold a can of spray paint. Walk in a large circle, holding the rope taut and spraying the paint close to the ground (warning: wear old shoes).
  2. Check that the ground beene level using a 20 centimeter board, that is not warped, and place it flat on the ground. First you should have cut the grass very short and raked well, so that you don't have to measure over the grass, sticks and dirt.
  3. Walk on the board to make sure it is flat on the ground. Place a level on top of the board to ensure that the floor is no more than 2 centimeters uneven. Move the board around the stake to measure the entire circumference of the pool.
  4. If the floor is uneven by more than 2 or 3 cm.
  5. , you should eliminate high points, do not fill in low points. Adding fill under an above ground pool can cause it to sink or spill, and you wish you had taken the harder route, which is to remove the highest points. A couple of centimeters of fill will probably be fine and adding those 2 or 3 centimeters often provides a softer soil, but adding several centimeters of fill soil or sand can be a problem.

How to prepare the ground to put pool edges

Preparation of the land to lay floors for swimming pools

First steps for installing the pool floor

The placement of the edges should start from the corners towards the center, leaving the center pieces to make adjustment cuts.

  • The base must be very well compacted. The subfloor should be 1,5 cm below the top edge of the pool.
  • It is advisable to make the subfloor of reinforced concrete with a minimum thickness of 8 cm.
  • The correct thing to do is to place the ceramic pieces on a slab with the appropriate drop towards the drainage area.
  • The resulting installation with the ceramic should not create unevenness at the junction with the crown.
  • The pieces are placed like any ceramic floor, with highly adherent and flexible cement glue, suitable for the material of the pieces, their hardness and especially for outdoor flooring.
  • The edge should protrude about 3 cm into the pool.
  • You should never hit the pieces with the handle of the mallet to level them.
  • Taking joints must be done with the paste provided with the edges.
  • The cuts must be made with a grinder and diamond disc.
  • When placing the corners, you must verify that they are correctly leveled and square to each other. It is necessary to give the edges a slope of 2 to 3 mm outwards.
  • For better adhesion of the edge to the subfloor, it is advisable to brush the edge seat and then apply a thin layer of floor adhesive before placing it on the base mortar.

You will need to start by first installing all the corner coping sections and pre-bend them with the self-tapping screws provided.

  • During the installation process, make sure the lip of the coping fits snugly against the face or top panel.
  • Screws should be placed at 1-foot intervals; A drill with a 5/16" hex head bit works best to drive these screws through the coping and into the pool panel.

Tip: Each installation will require cutting the coping.

  • Corner sections next to a step may need to be cut and trimmed by hand to fit snugly on the step.
  • It may also be necessary to cut the straight pieces of the coping when placing them in place.
  • While a hacksaw cuts most aluminum extrusions, a miter saw equipped with an aluminum cutting blade is recommended for the most professional results.
